This just in...

Very concerning news....

Kev has emailed me from work to say that the RPS firewall now blocks our blog!! Nooooooooo......... But more importantly for him, it wont let him view the Munster Rugby website. Bastards. Who do they think they are?

We went out in Hamilton tonight for dinner. Beaumont St is supposed to be one of the main going out for dinner type streets in Newcastle and we hadn't been over there yet to check it out so we decided tonight was the night. We started with the "Irish" pub for a quick drink before dinner. This is how authentic Irish it was, there was a picture of Ireland on the wall with the 4 counties marked on it. Munster, Leinster, Ulster and MEATH. Meath???? Are you kidding me? And then they had all of the walls lined with pokies, with the only gap being for the TAB counter. And they had Kilkenny on tap. I was wearing my Munster Jersey and that was the most Irish thing within about half the globe from that joint. Disappointing. All I want is somewhere where I can sit and have a pint of Bulmers (or Magners) with not a Pokie in direct sight. The search continues......... Anyway, dinner was nice, but Darby St is better overall.

Notes for real Irish people:
  1. Pokies are poker machines, and the scourge of Australian pub atmosphere, not to mention a huge social problem.
  2. The TAB is where you can bet on Horse and Greyhound racing inside the pub, and again pretty much exclusively a social problem.

Last Sunday we had our neighbors over for a BBQ lunch, and the whole thing went really well. Our first set of neighbors are Mike and Becks next door on our street, they are a half Aussie, half Kiwi couple who met in London and are now here in sunny Newcastle. They are pretty much the same age as us and are good value. The other neighbor is Cath from over the back fence, she is an air traffic controller, mid-ish twenties and also good value. She also has a puppy who came around too and tried to play with Buckley. Buckley isn't much of a player, so the results were mixed.

There was one other BBQ attendee and that was Dan, who is a guy I used to work with about 5 years ago at Lane Cove Council. I bumped into him down the street the other day, and figured that he would enjoy BBQing as much as the rest of us. I was right.

We had a great arvo sitting around with a few drinks, and then adjourned over the road to the pub to watch the Newcastle Jets lose 3-0 to the Central Coast Mariners, which was a shame given they went into the match with a 2-0 advantage from the home leg of the semi final. Bugger. They now have a match tomorrow night to get into the Grand Final. Go the Jets. Anyway, lunch eventually ended at about 10.30 that night, and it is enough to say that Monday was a bit of a difficult day at work. Def worth doing, and I can see another neighborly gathering in the near future.

Buckley is going well. He had another bath again today and still absolutely loves it. That bubble isnt bursting thankfully. He wasnt the biggest fan of having his territory invaded by another dog, but managed in the end. His latest thing is when there is the slightest hint of his bed time coming around, he sprints upstairs and jumps on our bed. Very naughty. Most of the time he respects the no-puppies-upstairs rule, but he still hates being abandoned at bed time.

I had a week off after the Triathlon, but hit the road again this week for 3 jogs over the course of the week. Still feeling reasonable fitness wise. I ended up coming 199th in the Triathlon in 1 hr and 16 mins, and Donny was 221st in 1 hr and 38 mins. That will give us a target to beat for the next one.

I have to work tomorrow (Sunday) on the rail works, but will prob get a day off during the week to compensate. Might go up to Port Stephens and visit the folks while they are up there on Hols.

Ok, pretty much out of things to say. Bye.
